ABOUT US

Syosset Flag Football League (SFFL) is a non-contact, no-tackling and no-blocking league created to give children in the Syosset Central School District a safe, fun, and competitively balanced flag football experience.

We are a true community league. Our focus is on fairness, sportsmanship, and enjoyment, with teams formed carefully by grade and overall skill level. We work closely with volunteer parent coaches before each season to create balanced teams and a positive environment where kids can learn, compete, and grow.

A tremendous amount of time and planning goes into every season. From scheduling games around other Syosset sports and known conflicts to ensuring competitive balance, we prioritize convenience for families and a great experience for every player. Our goal is simple: every child should develop skills, build friendships, and finish the season excited to come back.

By joining the Syosset Flag Football League, your child will learn the fundamentals of flag football in a structured, supportive setting while becoming part of a close-knit community that values teamwork, effort, and respect.

ADDITIONAL INFO & FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We invest significant time and effort into every detail of the league. We get to know families and players personally, and we focus heavily on proper team formation, recruiting strong volunteer coaches, appointing division heads, and maintaining consistent scheduling with parental convenience in mind.

We coordinate with other Syosset sports organizations, such as baseball and basketball, to minimize conflicts whenever possible. Each division plays within a predictable weekly time window that accounts for known age-specific conflicts.

Our roster sizes are intentionally kept manageable so every child can actively participate. Our rules, particularly at younger ages, are designed to promote skill development, confidence, and enjoyment. We also use multiple referees for each game to support players and coaches and ensure games run smoothly.

Unlike other leagues, we do not register full teams. We do not create all-star teams or exclusively "friend teams". Instead, the league coordinates team formation with parent coaches and division heads before the season to create fair, balanced teams by grade, skill level, and school. This approach has worked extremely well in our other community leagues and helps kids meet new classmates and build friendships across the district.

Off-season preparation is extensive, so we ask families to register as early as possible. Once a division fills, registration will close and a waitlist may be created. If you are interested in coaching, please indicate that during registration and register the parent as a coach as well.

DIVISIONS

For the Spring season, we will offer boys and girls divisions in three grade-based groups:

K & 1st Grade
2nd & 3rd Grade
4th & 5th Grade

All games are played locally on Syosset school fields.

SEASON DATES

Fall Season: Weekend after Labor Day through mid-November
Spring Season: Mid to late March through mid-June

COMMITMENT EXPECTATIONS

Families are expected to honor their commitment to the league. We understand that conflicts can arise, but players should plan to attend the majority of games and playoffs.

Registration fees will be refunded, less a small transaction fee, if a request is made prior to the division drafts, which occur shortly before the season begins. Once teams are drafted, we expect players to participate fully and support their teammates.

COACHES, DIVISION HEADS, AND ADVISORY BOARD

Parent involvement is critical to the league's success.

• Coaches: Parents are encouraged to volunteer. Please indicate your interest during registration.
• Division Heads: Each division will have a Division Head who works closely with the league on scheduling, communication, and overall organization. This role is ideal for parents who want to be more involved without coaching every week.
• Advisory Board: We are forming a small Advisory Board made up of engaged community members to help guide the league as it grows. Advisory Board members provide input on league operations, rules, and long-term planning.

If you are interested in any of these roles, please reach out to us at syossetflagfootball@gmail.com.

SPONSORSHIPS

Yes, we welcome sponsors. Local businesses and families can support the league and will be recognized on our website, registration materials, league app, field signage, and during Super Bowl events.

Sponsorships directly support league operations and help ensure that finances never prevent a child from participating. In addition, the league contributes to community organizations each season based on causes important to the Syosset community. These contributions come from the league itself and are not charitable donations tied to sponsorships.

FINANCIAL AID

No child will ever be left out because of finances. The league sets aside funds, including sponsorship support, to cover registration fees when needed.

Requests for financial assistance should be sent to syossetflagfootball@gmail.com. Please include your name, phone number, and email address. All inquiries are handled privately and respectfully.

If you have any additional questions, please reach out. We are very responsive and happy to help.

Thank you for your support, and welcome to the Syosset Flag Football League.
